The Sounds - “Seven Days a Week”
I love that Stars wears their heart on their sleeve. They are dramatic pop music because being in love and passionate is dramatic. Share your passion. What’s more important than to love and be loved? Stars - “Dead Hearts” live in Minneapolis at First Avenue
“Complicated” by Poi Dog Pondering, done living room acoustic style by founding members Frank Orrall (guitar), Max Crawford (keys) and Susan Voelz (violin). It was simply surreal to have the band actually play it in one of our own living rooms as we’ve been playing this song at all our wedding receptions and every New Year’s Eve since 1995.
“Hook up and meet at the Rally” tonight. Phoenix live at the State. Ticket secured. Just need to confirm that babysitter. Mama and I will be standing in different rows. Reserved seats are funny like that sometimes. There are three bands that warrant this level of excitement from me right now. I bet you can guess, faithful reader. You’ve seen them featured here. They are Stars, The National and Phoenix.
Stars live on KCRW, Santa Monica. Just about my fave band on just about my fave station. Just about perfect.
Justin Bieber on SNL - Baby (via live9410)
Say what you will. Say “Baby Oh Baby” 18x each chorus. Say what @nathanrabin (The Onion) hilariously tweeted:
“Why does Justin Bieber have four 50 year old Asian back-up singers and 8 nondescript back-up dancers? Is he afraid to be alone?”
Or what my nephew said: the worst song, all he does is say “baby oh baby” a million times.
Mama: Stupid shoes.
Jefe: Yeah, it does seem to be an elaborate ad for sneakers, but…
But this is a damn fine pop song and better live performance than the record. Yes. Am told it is written by The-Dream (“Umbrella”, more http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The-Dream). Don’t need no Starbucks. Do you need to say more when it’s this infectious. There’s a reason these tunes are called earworms.
There was a pretty good sketch with Tina Fey and Bieber, too. Actually they played up their burgeoning fauxmance quite a bit with asides and winks and mentioning her name in his second song. It was up there with the Zach Galifianakis and Jon Hamm SNL episodes as the only ones I remember this year. Check Hulu for more.
