The Late Hal Fishman Wins Me New Pornographers Tix

MFR had a contest in which they asked for 50 words or less on who is your favorite television news anchor and why.
I wrote:

Hal Fishman from KTLA. Kent Brockman on The Simpsons was based on him. Every time he said an interesting word like FIREBOMB, he sounded as if he was saying it aloud for the first time. Plus Fishman was such an appropriate name as he had fish eyes, quite separated. RIP Hal.

Hey Jeff!

Congrats! You’ve won the contest. I received almost 100 of entries and yours was the only one who reference Hal Fishman, so you win.
You will be on the “First Avenue” list with a plus 1 tomorrow night.
Be sure to brag to all of your friends that you won tickets from MFR!

So, here I am telling my friends that I will be at The New Pornographers show at First Avenue tomorrow night. I want to check out The Depot, too. Will you?

A Song a Day

“If You Can’t See My Mirrors” by The New Pornographers. “Pissed-up Sunday morning?” Are you hearing that, too? Dan Bejar on the H.M.S. Pinafore rock the best of what might be my favorite album of the year so far. (And one of the best album covers, too.) Could Canada be any better? I only wish this song was longer. Mirrors remind me of how Chad was watching Bad Movie Night. He was standing looking at us (away from the the TV) over our heads watching the screen reflected in a mirror. It was funny and creepy. This is a chill song. Goosebumps on the chorus. Feel it?

“Silver Jenny Dollar” by The New Pornographers from Together

Dan Bejar rocks on this new record which is tied for my fave album of the year so far with Broken Social Scene. It’s a wonderfully fresh string laden and punctuated set of tunes. Really refreshing for a fifth record. Still some tricks up their sleeves. Now let’s see what Stars can do.
