I volunteered in Doodles’ Kindergarten classroom today. It’s always a fountain of writing material. Apropos of nothing, a friendly girl walked up to the table I was working at with Doodles. This is a transcript of our conversation.
Kindergarten Girl: I’m allergic to orange juice…and eggs. Volunteer Jefe: Oh, I’m sorry, but I’ll be sure to never bring those to your classroom. Girl: I’m also allergic to sandwiches. Jefe: Whoa, that’s too bad. Girl: Well, I’m not allergic to them. I just don’t like the way they smell. Jefe: Have you tried eating one? Girl: If I did I would have to go into the bathroom and spit it out like this…(mimics vomiting)

Doodles talking about Oatmeal Squares. I told him what they’re called, but said I got his point. He replied, “I was going to say Fat Cinnamon Life.” Which I thought sounded like a Weird Al parody of a Third Eye Blind song from the 90s. |
Knights of the Bright Side.” It’s finally available. You can hear (and buy) the song Sammy Doodles and Pablo inspired: “Knights of the Bright Side” by We Became Actors.
Get it and come to the record release party on Apr 16th at Kitty Cat Club. I’m so proud of these guys and honored to be in the Kickball Choir heard in the background on tracks, “Visit Pt. 2” and “I Feel Like This Summer is Gonna Be One Long Hold Steady Song”.
I love this record. If there’s any justice you’ll hear these tunes blasting from open car windows this Summer. Let’s start with yours. Support our local talent. Click on the title above to hear samples and order.
Dad as seen by Doodles (5). Dictated to pre-school teacher. Hope he said, “Take dictation,” like Max Fischer did to Dirk in Rushmore. It’s always enlightening to hear & see how you’re seen and heard by others, especially your son. Had a wonderful Dad’s Night at preschool. Sadly, probably, our last.
When you forget to take aforementioned Kanye West CD out of the player after picking up pre-schooler:
Doodles: He said a naughty word.
Jefe: Oops.
Doodles: What is that song called with the naughty word?
Jefe: “Power”.
Doodles: I LIKE that song “Power”.
