See it in good old-fashioned 2D, it’s more American. Seriously if you’re sick of 3D, vote with your money and pay to see the standard format. It’s a good fun time at the movies. Continues Marvel good last line tradition (but not Iron Man 2). Stay for the very end. Might have been more fun than Thor which I really liked, too.

Knights of the Bright Side.” It’s finally available. You can hear (and buy) the song Sammy Doodles and Pablo inspired: “Knights of the Bright Side” by We Became Actors.

Get it and come to the record release party on Apr 16th at Kitty Cat Club. I’m so proud of these guys and honored to be in the Kickball Choir heard in the background on tracks, “Visit Pt. 2” and “I Feel Like This Summer is Gonna Be One Long Hold Steady Song”.

I love this record. If there’s any justice you’ll hear these tunes blasting from open car windows this Summer. Let’s start with yours. Support our local talent. Click on the title above to hear samples and order.

Tooth Fairy 2: Gender?

No, don’t get your hopes up for a sequel to the Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson film. The Tooth Fairy came again: second tooth for Pablo. It had to be “wiggled out” by the dentist to make room for already growing permanent teeth, as will two more tomorrow. So we’re going with $2 for these because of the special circumstances. It’s still down from the first $5 tooth, but more than the $1 usual fee we had agreed upon here through social media parenting checks and balances. It’s funny to know that we will have two more teeth and another chance to play the Fairy tomorrow night. Usually you can’t plan for that or put it on a calendar.

Pablo will be coming back to school after Spring Break with 3 less teeth than he had before he left. Could look a bit strange or raise suspicion. But he’s excited to mark them on the class chart of lost teeth.

Unfortunately for us and possibly Doodles, Pablo already has cause to doubt some of the fun childhood magic we want to keep alive. He heard from another 1st Grader that his Mom, not the Tooth Fairy, puts the money under the pillow.

He asked me about it. I said, “Hmmn, that’s interesting. Well, I guess in some families that’s the way the parents do it. Not everyone is as fortunate to get visited by the Tooth Fairy.”

I was reminded me of the Kid Logic episode of This American Life on NPR. It’s a story I’ve referenced many times as parent. Listen and hear how a child thinks her neighbor friend’s Dad is the actual Tooth Fairy and it’s their little secret. I really love this story, but I just couldn’t give that power (and pressure) to Pablo’s friend’s Mom. I didn’t want to say, “Oh, yeah, Owen’s Mom is actually the Tooth Fairy.” What if she wasn’t up for the acting gig?

Another interesting thing about Kid Logic and the movie The Tooth Fairy is that I never pictured this Fairy as a man. As a kid, I always imaged The Tooth Fairy as a winged princess with a wand, almost like Glinda crossed with Tinkerbell. Did you imagine The Tooth Fairy to be male or female?

Good Boy Pablo is inspired by SpongeBob SquarePants.

“Mr. Sun” by Pablo is probably the most appropriate clip for MSP today. Enjoy the tune sung by Burroughs’ Kindergarten class.

Last Day of Kindergarten

It’s Pablo’s last day of Kindergarten and it did go as fast as everyone tells you. At least we have another son to go through it, because I don’t want it to end so soon. Kindergarten done already? Now it’s real school grades next year. You really do wish you had a gold watch which could freeze time for a while so you could step back and appreciate it more. Mama, Doodles and I will be attending the end of year concert program in a couple hours. Hopefully we’ll have some blog-worthy footage to post. Stay tuned.

For some reason, the song stuck in my head as we stood in the pouring rain at the bus stop was ”That’s What Friends Are For” which was originally from Night Shift, Ron Howard’s first film.

The closing theme song, “That’s What Friends Are For,” was written by Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager. The song is performed by Rod Stewart in the film. It was later covered byDionne Warwick & Friends (Stevie WonderGladys Knight, and Elton John); John’s version became a Billboard Grammy Award-winning #1 hit and raised millions for AIDS causes.

Not a lot of people remember that the song was actually first from a movie about a couple guys running a prostitution ring in a morgue.

Plot:

Chuck (Winkler), formerly a successful stockbroker, has found a refuge from the ulcer-inducing Wall Street rat race in his job as an attendant at the New York City morgue. His displeasure at being “promoted” to night shift supervisor to make room for his boss’s nephew is exacerbated by the irrational exuberance of Bill “Blaze” Blazejowski (Keaton), his new coworker. However, both men are inspired by the plight of Chuck’s prostitute neighbor, Belinda (Long), to apply Chuck’s M.B.A. education and Bill’s entrepreneurial spirit to open a prostitution service with headquarters at the morgue.

I remember liking the movie a lot at the time. Keaton was really on fire. According to Netflix, this 1982 flick is

Genre:
Late Night Comedies
This movie is:
Feel-goodSteamyGoofy

And isn’t that just like Kindergarten? Feel-good, goofy…okay, hopefully not steamy.

I’m a soccer mom. At least according to Erin, who is really one, but sure, I’ll take the moniker till we accept Soccer Pop. Prince sang that sometimes it snows in April. And now we know it also hails in May. One of the first spring Fuller Soccer Club games of the season found Pablo’s team, Storm, in the middle of a real one. A brief hail storm. Fuller Soccer Club is an excellent program for 5-6 year olds and 7-8 year olds. I like the name Storm as it sounds so much more ominous than the other options: Lightning, Momentum (a successories poster?), Cyclones, Tornado, Bouncers (really?), Flash, Zaggers (worst), Thunder, Volts, Rovers (they are at least red), Coyotes, Kickers, Cardinals, Wave (Hey Milwaukee!), Growl (um, take a Tums), and Raptors. See how many of those are just derivatives or smaller subsets of a Storm? But, there is one team with a possible stronger name…Force. ‘Nuff said. Ok, I’m a Soccer Mom.

[Flash 10 is required to watch video]

And now, your moment of zen:

A parent needs to be a spy at times. We have to conceal our cameras to capture the best moments. The candid smiles and laughs quickly turn to an extended tongue or crunkled-up face when spotting our intrusive lens.

Our playroom receives a lot of morning sun which the boys take advantage of upon waking, especially on weekends. Here’s a lazy one in which Pablo thought he had the room to himself. He’s singing a tune from Fantastic Mr. Fox, “Boggis, Bunce and Bean”, about the three evil farmers.

Inevitably when the kids see these hidden camera videos they say something like, hey we didn’t know you were there and filming! It’s worth it.
